Results FAQ
I’m not listed on the results?
If you are not on the results list at all, there are a few things
to check- are there any blank spots in the results near where
you finished? Occasionally we can’t read the number on the camera,
and insert a blank in that spot. Is there a teammate in the spot
you think you placed? If we can’t read a number but know the team,
we might try an educated guess. If you are missing entirely, fill
out the information request below and send it in. There is no
guarantee that we will be able to change anything, but we may
be able to provide an explanation. Keep in mind that full results
are generated on site, and the USCF requires all protests and
changes to be made the day of the race. After the race day ends
the protest period expires and no official changes can be made.
If you are submitting an enquiry, please tell us where you think
you finished, your category and rider number, your team (and what
color/design the jersey is) and what type of wheels/bike you are
riding. Having all of that information will allow us to do the
best possible job in finding out why you did not make the results
page.
I think I’m one of the riders left blank on
the results?
The only reason that an X ever appears is because the rider number
was unreadable. There are several reasons a number could be unreadable,
all of which are the rider’s responsibility. The number could
be under a jacket, or it could be in the wrong spot, or it could
have come unpinned and be folded over. At the registration area
of each event there are posters showing where the number needs
to be for the camera to see it, and telling riders how to secure
the numbers. Click
here to see this information.
If you think you are an “X’d” rider, you need to report to an
official at the event. That way they can check their notes and
we can review the video as necessary. It does no good to tell
us the next day, or later that week. The video is NOT archived,
and after the results are made official, no changes can or will
be made.
There is no time (or and incorrect time) listed
for me?
The USCF officials provide the times listed (if any.) The service
I offer is results only, I do not offer timing services. I make
this very clear to promoters who hire me, but perhaps it needs
to be made clear to the riders as well. The reason I am there
with the camera is to provide the correct order of finish. This
includes being able to review video in the case of a protest regarding
finish order. Any times I include in the results come from the
officials, and are manually inserted in the results.
The main reason I can not offer timing services is that the
equipment I use does not support timing and I do not have the
time available during the event to manually time. My equipment
is simply a combination of off the shelf consumer electronics,
and there is no way to sync all the recorders and cameras so that
the timing is accurate.
I am trying to include times wherever possible, but often I have
to focus on the job I'm contracted for- finish order/results.
Any times I get come from the officials, and are inputted into
the results manually after the race finish. I will always put
in as much as I can, but my priority is the job for which I was
hired, results and finish order.
I swear I beat that guy for third. Can I protest?
No. All protests must be handled at the event by USCF officials
and within the prescribed timeframe.. The race video is NOT archived,
so we can’t go back and look at it anyway. If your results are
important for series points or anything else you need to check
the posted results before going home that day.
My name (or team name, club name) is spelled
wrong?
The number one reason this happens is human error. When entering
day of event riders I am working off of hand written sheets, and
sometimes off copies of hand written sheets. Not everyone has
the best handwriting, and sometimes I have to guess at names or
spelling. The best way to ensure all your data is entered correctly
is to pre-register and make sure that your profile on the online
registration service is up to date.. That way you control how
the information is entered. If you can’t pre-register, be sure
and check the posted results BEFORE you leave the event to make
sure everything is ok. After the event changes cannot and will
not be made.
What do you do under that tent all day?
Here is a quick run down of my day: Prior to race day I gather
my equipment and pack the car/truck. I also get the data for pre-registered
riders entered in the computer if possible.
On race day I leave home early enough (usually well before dawn)
to get to the race site about an hour before the start of the
first race. At the registration area I drop off posters with results
information and showing correct number placement. I then go to
the finish and set up. This usually includes the tent, tables,
cameras, etc. Most of the time I put the finish line down as well.
At some races everything you see at the finish is mine and set
up me alone.
After an hour of set up I get the day of entrants from the promoter
and input them into the computer. I generate start sheets for
the officials and for the announcer. As the races finish I record
the finish of each race. As soon as the first rider crosses the
line I begin reviewing the video and recording the finish order.
How long this takes is a direct function of number placement.
If riders don't place the numbers correctly the camera can't see
them, and the result is an "x" in the placing.
After the results are generated, I check with the officials to
make sure what I have matches what they have, and deal with any
relegations or dq's. After that I print a copy of the results
that are then posted for rider review. At this point, the riders
have 15 minutes to review the results and make any protests. After
that the results are official. After that protest period expires,
I cannot change the results. I often get e-mails after the event
requesting results changes or telling me "I was the rider in the
green jacket in 28th place". That does no good because the protest
period has expired, and the results are official. If riders care
about their placing, they need to wait for the results and file
any protests at the event within the 15-minute protest period.
This process is repeated for each of the fields as they finish.
At the end of the event day I print full copies of the results
for the officials, for the promoter and for the media. I break
down and go home to send results off to be posted on line.
A typical event day when doing results is 10-14 hours, more often
than not without meals and far too few bathroom breaks.
Can I get a copy of the video or a photo from
my race?
Not at the moment. We are still trying to figure out the best
way to do this. If we can do it, most likely it will be a race
day only offer.
Obviously I want to provide the best service I can to the promoters
who hire me and the riders at the events I work. It’s a constant
work in progress, but Pioneer will always do the best we can.
I will also be improving my equipment and working with promoters
and riders to better educate them on what they can do to make
my job easier, and provide a better racing experience for everyone.
